On the basis of a theoretical socio-ecological and socio-existential discussion, together with a rootedness approach, the results of a comparative study obtained from an empiric research on young inhabitants of the Patagonian city of San Carlos de Bariloche and the city of Buenos Aires (Argentina), 15 to 25 year-old, will be analyzed in order to check what are the representations about the environmental problems in the Southern Cone of Latin America and the Antarctica. The population under study is analyzed in terms of representations, perceptions, attitudes, and behavior, in relation to urban everyday life, environmental problems of the region and the Antarctica."Rootedness" is considered as a "total phenomenon": multidimensional and interdependent among its different dimensions -the spatial, the social, and the cultural dimensions-, and also as an explanatory variable, together with anomie, participation, and consumerism.
